WHAT: Green Team volunteers will assist the Green Festival in maximizing its sustainability goals, by diverting as much waste from the landfill as possible.  Volunteers will ensure that attendees deposit their recyclables, compost and trash in the proper cans at the Resource Recovery Stations located throughout the event hall (see included floor plan with resource recovery stations).  Three bins are included at resource recovery stations (recycling, compost and trash).  Each bin is clearly labeled to ensure proper disposal of items.  Some Green Team volunteers will also be in charge of resource recovery pickup, and the sorting of recycled materials and will report to the Greening Manager.  A passion for recycling and waste diversion is key!

Volunteers play a huge role in educating attendees on our waste diversion efforts and what items are recyclable and compostable.

Volunteer for at least one 4.5 hour shift and you’ll receive…
  • Free admission each day, even if you only work one day (or help before the event)
  • Free organic and sweatshop-free Green Festival T-shirt
  • 10% discount coupon for the Global Exchange Store, and optional free one-year Co-op America and/or Global Exchange membership (new members only)

ABOUT:   Green Festivals are a celebration of what’s working in our communities– for people, for businesses and for the environment.

A joint project of two national nonprofit organizations, Global Exchange and Co-op America, Green Festivals bring together local and national socially responsible businesses, and environmental, social justice and community organizations. Hundreds of thousands of concerned individuals over the years have attended these “parties with a purpose” aimed at forging a just, sustainable, inclusive economy – a green economy.

Green Festivals are a walk through a sustainable community. It starts with the personal: how people can make their lives work better. Individuals and business and community leaders also come together to discuss social and environmental issues of personal, local, national and global concern. Organizations and businesses showcase programs and products that serve the community. Neighbor-to-neighbor connections are formed, and skills are shared to empower people to create a livable community. Of course, it wouldn’t be a festival without music, art, culture and delicious food – all from local-based organizations and businesses.
