WHAT: We at Urban Volunteers will help at Misericordia Bakery. No bakery experience required. Volunteer tasks will vary between scooping, mixing, baking, packaging and displaying bakery products.

Bakery dress code: closed toed shoes, long pants, short/long sleeved shirt and a hat or hair net. Volunteers are welcome to bring their own hat or will be given one to use by Misericordia. We will meet at the Misericordia Home location at address above.

Appearance/Dress: At Misericordia we see to it that our residents are well dressed and well groomed before they head out the door each day and we ask that all volunteers respect the same dress code that our residents do. Comfortable and casual, yet presentable is the name of the game. Personal attire must be clean, pressed and in good taste. Jeans, sweatshirts and T-shirts are all acceptable as long as they are not ripped or torn and have no questionable sayings on them. Pants must fit properly. Shirts must have some type of sleeve and be long enough to be tucked in to your pants. Shorts, tank tops, sleeveless shirts and bare midriff tops are not allowed. Volunteers must also wear closed toed shoes. Gym shoes are great. No flip flops or opened toed sandals. Extremes in dress, hairstyles, and make-up should be avoided.

ABOUT: Operated by the Sisters of Mercy under the auspices of the Catholic Bishop of Chicago, Misericordia has been providing services for persons in need since 1921. Originally a home for unwed mothers, our current Mission began in 1954 when Misericordia opened its doors to infants and children with developmental disabilities Today, Misericordia is proud to support 550 children and adults with mild to profound developmental disabilities from all racial, religious and socio-economic backgrounds. Misericordia has a wide range of programs on our campus and in the community at-large to meet the diverse needs of persons with developmental disabilities. These include: residential placement and day-to-day support; job training and employment opportunities; physical, occupational and speech therapy; fitness and healthy living guidance; social and recreational outings; and opportunities for spiritual growth.
